For a single mom on welfare, nothing could have helped her but the love of God. She was given food, clothing, and help with bills.  While these things took care of her immediate needs, nothing could have given her hope like those who stood by her, prayed for her, and helped to care for her children. Today, because of God's love, she has received her college degree, has a job, and gives back to the community. This is a story that we desire to see repeated hundreds, if not thousands, of times in our county. We know that there are many others in our community that would like to see those around us transformed as this family was. We also know that it is difficult to find a place to begin to reach out. If you are one of those individuals that wants to help, but doesn't know where to start, we would like to tell you about ourselves. We are Community Compass, a not-for-profit community development corporation affiliated with The Church of Grace and Peace and serving the residents of Ocean County. Our purpose is to meet people's basic needs such as food, clothing, and shelter, but we do not stop there. We believe that if we can remove the day to day struggles which can take away someone's vision for the future, and allow them to move beyond a survival mentality, we can truly restore their hope, help them gain a sense of purpose and eventually, even give back to their community. Our goal is to provide help in several areas.  The Community Compass Food Pantry has been serving the community for fifteen years.  We operate on a consistent schedule each week, and our volunteers seek to help each person, who comes through our doors, to feel that someone truly cares for them. Our Clothing Center enables families to be able to go out into the workplace and the classroom with dignity. We know that children need to feel good about themselves in order to learn, and one of our goals is to provide them with clothing that is appropriate for school. We also know that appearance is very important in the workplace and we provide clothing to adults as well. Our center is open on a regular weekly schedule and we are also able to schedule appointments.
