Housing
Community Compass, Inc has established an affordable housing program for
individuals that have difficulty finding housing within their economic means. We
support democratically operated houses, whereby House Residents work together
to manage all aspects of operating of a home. Our program provides the House Residents with a safe, supportive environment during a time when they are transitioning in their lives.
We Help Individuals Transitioning:
At Community Compass, we encourage personal growth and wholeness by supporting the development of positive behavioral characteristics of our House Residents¦ Spiritually, Emotionally, Financially & Socially
Each resident is encouraged to develop his/her own goals, both practical and spiritual, and continuously strive to work towards achieving these goals while in the program.
We Provide Support:
In addition to the supplying the basic need of housing, Community Compass provides an array of support services available to our residents, upon their request.
- House Chaplain: Provides biblical counseling, bible study
and prayer
- Mentor: Provides guidance and encouragement
in improving education, job skills, overall life management, etc.
- House
Financial Advisor: Provides
advice on setting up personal finances and budgeting.
- Referral Services: Provides
counseling referrals for emotional support for any issues beyond the scope
of the program
- Advisory Assistance: Assistance in helping
resolving any house issues or disputes, when requested by the House Officers.
House Government:
Our house model is a democratically operated living environment. Each member of the house has (1) one vote in all matters concerning the house. These votes take place at weekly meetings of the entire household, called the House Committee. This committee appoints, on a rotational basis, four officers (House Manager, House Treasurer, House Secretary and Chore Coordinator) to ensure that all house business is handled fairly and beneficially for all House Residents.
Resident Covenant:
It is our hope that residents will agree to adopt our Resident Covenant
in order to insure that the healthiest and most cooperative living conditions
might be provided to all. Some
of the ideas contained in the covenant include:
- Cooperate respectfully
with those in authority
- Voluntarily Abstain from alcoholic drink, tobacco,
illegal drugs and obscene pornographic media
- Pursue your life goals
with intensity and actively endeavor to share simple kindness, respect and
love
- Maintain a character of self control; not displaying rage or anger
House Residents Graduate:
When a resident has completed his/her goals, has a plan for successful independent living and has paid all money owed to the program he/she can discuss graduating from the program with his/her Mentor. Since this program is designed to be temporary in nature, we applaud and encourage plans for our residents to take the next step. Additionally, we encourage residents to provide contact information upon leaving the program. This will enable Community Compass to follow-up with them at 3 months, 6 months and one year after graduation.
